Details:
According to legend, the original wooden statue was discovered by the local Aeta community in the 1600s. They began worshiping the image, which they referred to as Apo Apang ("Little Queen"). When Spanish missionaries arrived in the area, they recognized the image's resemblance to the Virgin Mary and introduced Catholic devotion to it, renaming it Ina Poon Bato ("Mother of the Rock"). The image was canonically crowned by Pope John Paul II during his visit to the Philippines in 1981.
